Who is Paul Fisher?

I am a Guatemalan-born transnational adoptee who loves connecting with people.

I am a junior at Newberry College, pursuing a Bachelor's in Journalism and a Minor in Political Science.  I am set to graduate in the Spring of 2026.

I am a creative and thoughtful person who loves people. Being number seven out of eight children, family plays a huge role in my life. As an adoptee, I have a complex story and have faced much adversity. This has allowed me to relate to a large variety of people.

I have learned many important skills in a large variety of communication areas. There are many ways to apply these skills and this is a dive into how I use them in the Journalism realm

Why Journalism?

I believe that everyone has a story to tell, but I understand not everyone has the ability to tell it.

Journalists have to ability to bring light to situations that often go unnoticed. Journalists have the ability to inform the public of things going on in their community. We have the ability to advance our society.

My goal is to always find the most creative and efficient way to tell a story. Everything in life falls on perspective and nothing can be accomplished if it's not communicated effectively.

There is a large drop-off in communication, especially among the youth, and I would love to combat this. I do this by example, and by showing people my age and younger how to truly communicate effectively. The sudden shift to a technology-reliant world (especially due to Covid) has cut back on many interpersonal skills and habits that are portrayed. The need for Communication Studies is enormous now more than ever.

With the world being as divided as it is, and with tensions and mistrust rising, there is a dire need for quality journalism. Real journalism. Too often today, the journalist is more focused on creating the  "soundbite of the century" and less on telling the story. More often than not, American polarization interferes with the quality of the news.

I plan on combatting this as well. There is a great need for unbias, uncensored, and truly informative news. We should be able to hear the news exactly as it happens, exactly as it appears.

There is a call for improvement to the view of the Journalism/ Media industry, and I am excited to begin making my impact.
