In my 10-week internship at WBIR 10News, I was able to cover a broad variety of news ranging from: Trump's assassination attempt, Tennesse's World Series victory, an investigation into a repeat DUI offender, and so much more. Here are a few of my favorite clips.
During my sophomore year, I was able to participate in a shadowship/internship at WBIR Channel 10, Knoxville's NBC-affiliated station. Here I was able to gain hands-on experience creating packages, writing web stories, and expanding my on-air portfolio. These are a few of those on-air clips.
In the Fall of 2023, Pellissippii State Community College welcomed its first-ever competitive collegiate sports teams. Pellissippi started with Men and Women's Soccer, Men and Women's Cross Country, Golf, and Women's Volleyball. I was blessed to host our Gameday Celebrations in which I hosted interviews and was able to introduce the community to this spectacular event and talented athletes.
In the summer preceding my senior year, my broadcasting teacher pitched to me an idea about a live pregame show. After agreeing with him he asked me to come up with a sales pitch and get the rest of the class on board. I coordinated all the interviews, wrote all the scripts, and set up and tore down the location, all while hosting the show itself (although my director was awesome and called great shows!). After dropping the first episode it became a hit! WBIR Channel 10 then came and aired a story during episode 2.
While I thoroughly enjoyed hosting and producing The First Down, that was just the surface of some of my work. I have acquired hours of on-air time. This ranges from News Anchoring, to Sports Commentating, as well as Sports Analyzing.
Aside from On-Air Time, I also do a large amount of behind-the-scenes reporting. I have thrown together video packages, all with the intent to tell a story. This consists of videography, interviewing, editing, and more.
A friend of mine once said I could not take boring subject matter and get people excited about it. I was eager and excited to accept his challenge. Later that day I sent him this package on the game of chess. This was an extremely fun package to make and showcases my ability to pull things together on the fly as well as create excitement anywhere.
While I truly love being in front of the camera, I have also enjoyed learning some of the behind-the-camera roles. I have gained a fair amount of knowledge in regard to Producing and Directing. In this clip, I am directing a Basketball game production in which we had a halftime show. I was able to respectfully correct one of the crew members (my technical director) for mispunching the transition. In situations like this, I display not only a knowledge of the job and task at hand but also the ability to lead in a stern but respectful way.
